BACKGROUND
Spain's rich dance culture encompasses numerous styles—from flamenco and sevillanas to jota and sardana—each with regional variations and unique expressions. Despite this cultural wealth, both locals and tourists struggle to discover dance classes, events, and performances that match their interests and location. The fragmented nature of dance information creates barriers to participation and cultural appreciation.
I joined the Danciero project during its early development phase to create an intuitive interface that would connect dance enthusiasts with Spain's vibrant dance scene, regardless of their familiarity with Spanish dance forms.
WHAT WE WANTED TO SOLVE
Through initial research and stakeholder interviews, we identified several key challenges:
Discovery Fragmentation: Information about dance classes and events was scattered across multiple channels (social media, local bulletins, word-of-mouth)
Geographic Relevance: Users needed location-specific recommendations without excessive filtering
Dance Type Complexity: Many users were unfamiliar with the distinctions between various Spanish dance styles
Commitment Tracking: Without proper scheduling and progress tracking, users often lost motivation to continue their dance journey
Our mission was to create a unified platform that would simplify the discovery process while providing personalized tools to sustain engagement with Spanish dance culture.
DESIGN SOLUTION
This design solution focuses on three core experiences: Intuitive Discovery, Personalized Dashboard, and Community Connection. The discovery interface features a geolocation-first approach with a map view and visual dance classification. The personalized dashboard includes class schedule management, progress visualization, and achievement tracking. Community features enable event sharing, instructor profiles with credential verification, and social sharing. These elements work together to create an engaging user experience.
CURRENT STATUS & FUTURE DIRECTION
As Danciero is still in development, our current focus is on:
Finalizing core user flows based on usability testing insights
Refining the onboarding experience to quickly communicate value
Developing the instructor-side interface for event and class management
Creating a scalable design system for future feature expansion
