BACKGROUND

Hiring trustworthy staff is often challenging. Check My Staff solves this problem by creating a verification system that allows employers to check potential employees' backgrounds and document their conduct over time.

WHAT WE WANTED TO SOLVE

Building trust in the hiring process

Many homes and businesses struggle with verifying the identity and history of potential staff. Without proper checks, employers take risks with their safety and property. We needed to create a simple system that uses National Identification Number (NIN) to verify identities and build a reliable record of work history.

DEEPDIVING INTO PROBLEM SOLVING

As the sole designer, I researched how Nigerians typically hire staff and what concerns they have. I needed to design two separate but connected experiences: a mobile app for domestic staff and a web platform for corporate verification.

What we discovered

  1. Employers wanted a quick way to check if staff had negative records.

  2. The National Identification Number (NIN) was the most reliable verification method.

  3. Users needed different interfaces based on whether they were hiring for homes or businesses.

  4. Both versions needed to feel trustworthy while remaining easy to use.

LET'S COOK

Creating a balanced brand

I developed a brand that balanced professionalism with approachability. The logo needed to represent safety and trust while feeling relevant to Nigerian users. After several iterations with the client, we created a symbol that captured the essence of verification while remaining visually memorable.

Two platforms, one mission

For the mobile app (domestic staff), I designed a straightforward interface that allowed homeowners to quickly register, verify, and review household staff. The web app for corporate users featured more robust tools to handle complex company structures and extensive background checks.

Both interfaces share core design elements but are tailored to their specific users. The mobile app focuses on simplicity for everyday use, while the web platform provides deeper analytics and team management features.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

The mobile app's successful launch with over $10,000 in first-month revenue shows there's high demand for this service in Nigeria. As we prepare to launch the corporate web platform, we're applying insights from the mobile app to refine the user experience. Creating two distinct but connected experiences has taught me valuable lessons about designing for different contexts while maintaining a consistent brand promise of safety and trust.
