BACKGROUND
Identity verification remains a significant challenge for businesses and individuals alike. With rising concerns about fraud and identity theft, there was a pressing need for a reliable system that could quickly authenticate identities using government-issued credentials. Despite the National Identity Management Commission's efforts to implement the NIN (National Identification Number) system, there was no seamless interface for everyday users to leverage this database for verification purposes.
WHAT WE WANTED TO SOLVE
The primary goal of CheckMyPeople was to develop an intuitive platform that could simplify the identity verification process by connecting directly to Nigeria's National Identity Database. We aimed to build a solution that would allow users to verify identities using just a NIN or phone number, providing instant access to government-registered information including names and photos.
DESIGNING THE VERIFICATION FLOW
The design process began with mapping out the simplest possible verification flow that would still ensure security and accuracy. We focused on creating a system where users could input either a NIN or phone number and receive immediate verification results.
One of the key design challenges was presenting the verified identity information in a way that facilitated quick comparison between the displayed photo and the person being verified. I developed a card-based layout that prominently featured the verified individual's photo alongside their basic identity information, making visual confirmation intuitive.
